2026.08.13 Yorkton sent representative to attend the “Conversation with Secretary of State, Ruby Sahota” on public safety and Edmonton’s Economic Future. The event was hosted by Edmonton Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Downtown Revitalization Coalition.
The event examined challenges facing downtown and business districts, including crime perceptions, rising property crime, and the growing costs businesses face for security measures. The conversation with The Honorable Ruby Sahota, the Secretary of State for Combatting Crime, focused on the connection between public safety and Edmonton’s economic future. The event explored how governments, businesses, and social-service organizations can work together to create a safer, more vibrant, and investment-friendly Edmonton.
The Honorable Ruby Sahota also bolstered public understanding of Bill C-22. With the new Bill, service providers who have already been keeping digital information on consumers will be required to provide such information to the police if a warrant is served on them for a criminal investigation. It will help arresting dangerous criminals and will help disrupt and dismantle organized crime networks.
