Yorkton is proud to announce the completion of a major new public art mural at Pacific Mall, located at 105 Avenue and 97 Street.
We commissioned SOWL, the renowned Toronto-based, Filipino-Canadian muralist, to bring the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals to life on the west wall of the mall. SOWL took his task very seriously, entering a focused, 7-day artistic seclusion to complete the masterpiece.
We took our task of supervising and having fun very seriously as well.
While SOWL was hard at work, CEO Ben Lui, his wife Phillus, and City Councillor Anne Stevenson were hard at work, testing the scissor-lift for photo opportunities. At one point, Phillus and Ben even attempted to add their own artistic contribution to the mural, momentarily forgetting that Ben himself had ordered the installation of the sign directly below it which reads: “GRAFFITI IS A CRIME.”
The completed mural was officially unveiled on September 11th by City Councillor Anne Stevenson.
The result is spectacular. The next time you visit Pacific Mall, you will be formally greeted by the full zodiac lineup: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
Come by and find your zodiac, just please admire it from ground level. The scissor-lift has been returned.
